Trantor Tractor Haulier 1262 Series 2 Rare Vintage/classic Restoration Project
Too many details, parts, history etc to list so going to start of by saying to ring my number: 07507 669 430 for more details as I cant list all of them. Trantor was built as a series 2 then 3 of these series 2s were taken and leyland rear axles were put in with no arms or pto so they could be used more for road work. Perkins 6 cylinder engines were also put in 10 of these vehicles rated at 126hp (nearly 50hp more than the standard engine). Out of all the tractors produced, 2 were bought by JCB to copy the idea of the fastrac off- this is the only known surviving one bought by jcb making it very rare (I have log book with 1 previous owner written on it- J C Bamford Ltd). Ive now owned this 1985 Trantor hauler 1262 for 2 years after it was retrieved from a hedge. Lots of work has been done over the 2 years Ive had it with too many bits to note. New engine, rear axle & gearbox oils. New rear axle differential. Rear axle selector box fixed. New rear leaf springs & shocks. Rear axle support bushes. New oil & diesel filters. Some panel welding has been done. As you can see the Trantor still needs quite a bit of work but 90% of it is bodywork and aesthetics. There are some areas of rot which will need welding and it would look nice painted but its all up to the new owner. Ive got quite a few contacts if the new owner struggled to source anything. It also comes with a parts book/manual which has broken down diagrams of nearly every mechanical part. Ive gained quite a bit of knowledge and will happily help the new owner source parts and give help. There is also social media groups and other sources which will give the new owner all kinds of help. I bought the vehicle as a non runner and have got it to a stage where I cannot do any more work to it as Im not very good at bodywork and painting so will let someone else enjoy the project. The Trantor will start off the key with some heat and the engine is very powerful. Ive had it through all gears in a long field but cant get up to top speed as its very fast and run out of ground. It has hydraulic front breaks which will need fixing (mainly master cylinders but Ive found a supplier) although the breaks seem nearly knew when the front hubs were taken off and greased. The rear axle runs on air breaks like a wagon but are not hooked up properly (only needs some air pipe). The compressor in the engine works well and will soon build up 100 bars of pressure within seconds and pushes air out when the breaks are pressed- just doesnt lead to the drums. Also has wing weights which were an option extra. There are tons of other parts as you can see in the last 2 pictures which are mostly all original including the 2 rubber floor mats which very hard to come by. The driver seat cushions were shot but the frame is still there and I have sourced original passenger seats if wanted. Can also get other parts like front grille and dashboard etc re-made. You can also sign up to the Trantors register to receive lots of history and Information about these rare vehicles. Also has spool valves on the back to plug into implements as well as an air break and hydraulic port to use with trailer breaks. Spare parts include lights, indicators, part of the grille, driver seat frame, lots of nuts&bolts, air tank etc etc. Trantor is running in all pictures. Would look nice done up. Quite a useful thing as it will nearly do 60mph and can legally tow 19 tons. Lots of history and potential. Should turn heads at shows. Loads of pictures of the progress and work thats been done. Pictures dont do it justice. Can send more pictures. The item “Trantor Tractor Haulier 1262 Series 2 Rare Vintage/classic Restoration Project” is in sale since Sunday, January 13, 2019.
